Trials and tribulations of picking a favourite

Join Al & Juddy as they discuss how to choose the best forage species for your farming system.

They share their experiences in evaluating different cultivars, covering everything from understanding animal grazing preferences and conducting replicated plot trials to considering the impact of management decisions.

Whether you already have your preferred forage cultivars or are curious about the selection process, this episode provides valuable insights on how to make informed choices that align with your farming system.

"Preference is all about what the choices are. I remember in a perennial ryegrass plot trial, we had one hybrid that was grazed to a very low level and highly preferred in that trial. But when the same grass was in a plot among Italian ryegrasses, it was the least grazed. The idea is that it was the same grass, just in a different context. Preference depends on the other choices available." – Glenn Judson
